Every team would want to have a role model and a mentor like former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but the 36-year old batsman revealed why he wanted to stay with the Chennai Super Kings despite many teams approaching him before the Indian Premier League 2018 player retention. Dhoni said he was approached by many teams before IPL retention, but he chose to stay with Chennai because he couldn't think of not coming back to CSK. Dhoni praised CSK fans and said Chennai is like his second home. He further said that the thought of being with any other franchise was never a question for him and it was indeed an easy decision to make. Dhoni, who led CSK to two IPL titles, also said that they would be aiming to get Ravichandran Ashwin back in the fold in the upcoming IPL players auction. Apart from Dhoni, CSK have also retained Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. This year's players auction is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28.
